Main Ending in Little Nightmares 2
The main ending most people will get for Little Nightmares 2 sees Mono being betrayed by Six right after he helps her transform back. Instead of catching him and pulling him up, she lets him drop and be consumed when they’re escaping the transmission tower.
Mono then falls into a pit of blood and guts. The only option players have to progress the game from this point is to have him sit in the chair that is in the center of the room. We then see him slowly transforming, turning into the Thin Man that chased them and eventually imprisoned Six.
That means that throughout the entire game, the Thin Man was simply trying to stop Mono from helping Six, as she eventually betrays him. How is that possible?
Well, we saw that Mono is able to travel via televisions by tuning them. After sitting in the chair for decades, he eventually develops the power to manipulate time, allowing him to go back in time through the televisions to when he was with Six.
Obviously, he fails to stop Six, as he’s ironically stopped by the younger version of himself, forever trapping him in a time loop. But why did Six do this?
Six’s Betrayal
While Six’s betrayal might seem like a huge shock, anyone who played the first game or paid attention to her behavior throughout the sequel wouldn’t find this all too surprising.
Throughout the entirety of Little Nightmares 2, Six can be seen acting strangely. Whether it was methodically picking apart a mannequin hand or being caught eating…something, it was clear she was unhinged after the events of the first game.
In that game, Six falls victim to hunger multiple times, even eating a Nome – which turns out to be the character The Runaway Kid from the DLC of the same name. More importantly, she bites into the throat of the Lady at the end of Little Nightmares, gaining her powers as a result.
So why exactly did she betray Mono? The guess is that she never really was with him to begin with. Instead, he was just a means to an end, as she needed his help to progress throughout the signal tower.
There is also the notion that she didn’t forgive him for letting her get captured multiple times or for destroying her toy.
Lastly, some speculate that she was able to piece together that he was the Thin Man when she got a close up look of his face at the end when she was pulling him up since he had no hat on his head for once. This would be extremely ironic, as her betrayal would be the reason this all happened in the first place.
Little Nightmares 2 Secret Ending
There is actually a secret ending to Little Nightmares 2 if you work hard enough. All you need to do is collect the 18 glitched children across the first four chapters – there are none in chapter five.
When you do, you’ll get a cinematic at the end of the game alongside the usual ending. This shows Six being ejected from one of the signal TVs.
After a few seconds, a glitched child version of herself can be seen, eventually looking down at a poster for The Maw from the first game. This points to the game being one giant loop, as this Six seems to be the one from the first game who is endlessly hungry.
This would explain why Six runs away from Mono when they meet up for the first time in Little Nightmares 2. The problem is that she can’t make her way forward without him, so they eventually work together.
Mono’s Powers
A bonus explanation for Mono’s powers, as well as why he dies when the Thin Man touches him, has to do with frequencies. It seems that physical contact between each version of Mono results in the smaller one dying.
The reason for this is due to the reality-bending powers they possess interacting and repelling one another. The Thin Man’s power is so refined, that Mono’s weak and chaotic frequency causes him to be killed.
Having both versions of Mono also existing in one reality would also explain why time and reality becomes so distorted. Every time Mono and the Thin Man are together, time slows to a crawl. Imagery is also warped, turning the environment into things like fleshy walls.
